Central Pennsylvania: Our Time Has Come takes the reader on a tour of the three counties that make up the Harrisburg Region of Pennsylvania. The counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry, located about 100 miles west of Philadelphia and 200 miles east of Pittsburgh, make up a region of Pennsylvania that is unique and special in almost every way.
It all started with the history that shaped the region beginning in the early 1700s. To understand any geographic region, we need to first look at its history, and that is where our story begins.
Central Pennsylvania provides a wonderful quality of life to its residents and many factors combine to make it attractive to newcomers of all different age groups. In Our Time Has Come, we examine that special charm through editorial and photography.
For an area to thrive, there has to be business. As business expands, it attracts more residents, and that leads to still more business growth. Our story shares the expansion of business in Central Pennsylvania, and includes a special section highlighting the corporate profiles of some of the great companies in the region.
Two of the pillars that support life in the area are healthcare and education. They are so important that we have devoted a full chapter to each. The quality and extent of healthcare and education in Central Pennsylvania will surprise many who don’t yet know the region well.
Leisure time is important to everyone everywhere. The options for exploration and learning, and the opportunities for spending free time in the pursuit of culture, sports, music, etc., both indoors and outdoors, is truly limitless. Even longtime residents of Central Pennsylvania will be surprised at how much they will discover.
While Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry Counties are adjoining communities and share much in common, each county is unique in so many different ways. In Our Time Has Come, we explore many of these commonalities and many of the differences.
