George Fulton Comes to Texas
While living in Vincennes, Indiana, George Fulton heard about the Texian fight for independence. He gathered a group of volunteers, and they came by flatboat down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to Texas. George and the other volunteers arrived sometime in the fall of 1836; too late to participate in the war as it ended at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. George was commissioned into the Army of the Republic of Texas as a second lieutenant. According to numerous sources, he was promoted to captain during his
enlistment. When he completed his term of service, he received land (continued on page 12)
