IN 1940 LIM COLLEGE founder Maxwell F. Marcuse wrote, “The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising is probably the only school of its kind in America.” Its mission and methods were both unique and immensely successful. Seventy-five years, and seven thousand graduates later, the mission to prepare students for a successful career in the fashion industry has remained the same. The College’s leaders have continually sought guidance from industry professionals, especially through their involvement with the LIM College Industry Advisory Board. All three presidents, Maxwell, Adrian, and Elizabeth Marcuse, have listened closely and

With great respect for tradition and history, she is continually seeking new ways to refine and enhance the LIM College’s mission. This book is about the heritage of one of San Diego’s oldest corporations. The University Club of San Diego’s roots started in the decades following the Civil War, while the country was experiencing a cultural revolution of higher learning and a growing middle class. Men and women with university degrees sought to discuss current events, literature, arts, and culture in refined and private surroundings. That the 105-year- old University Club still thrives today proves that a diverse membership combined with the right leadership can navigate changing times. Today’s Club, which is operated by ClubCorp Inc., the country’s pre-eminent owner and operator of private clubs, offers San Diego’s most impressive views in stylish surroundings. And, a century later, this is the place where current events, the arts and culture are still discussed; where business networking thrives and members form lifelong friendships.

As a historian and archivist, he has written extensively on local history, including the books Stranger Than Fiction: Vignettes of San Diego History, The Way We Were in San Diego, and the recently published San Diego Yesterday.
